Given that Trump only built 15 miles of the thing, Barack Obama built more.
There's mountainous areas where it's not practical to build fencing.
And it's possible to go around it where it meets the sea.
It doesn't work.
What might, is if your country bashed the heads of Central and South American governments together and got them to raise living standards in their countries, and also did something to put the drug gangs out of business.
Walls don't stop poverty.
Poverty drives illegal economic migration.
There's mountainous areas where it's not practical to build fencing.
And it's possible to go around it where it meets the sea.
It doesn't work.

Unfortunately despite being an island surrounded by sea, large numbers of illegal immigrants have crossed into the UK by boat (some of whom have drowned in the attempt), and the Conservative government have put large numbers of illegal immigrants up in hotels.
The Yorkshire Gateway Hotel at Selby Fork is currently "closed" as it is occupied by Albanians.
Albania is a safe country albeit a very poor country.
There are gangs in that country and my country has not dealt with the situation very well at all.
They keep mucking about with a "Rwanda Plan" which will never get off the ground.
It would be cheaper to build tented refugee camps on uninhabited Scottish islands.
That would comply with "human rights" legislation without being attractive.
