Lets start with Thomas Hamilton, a paedophile.
He was drummed out of the Scout movement.
The local gun clubs all blacklisted him and wouldn't have him because he was bloody dangerous, and the Police gave him an extension to his firearms certificate for two revolvers in case one or both of his semi automatic pistols jammed. And this was in a situation with controls meant to stop arseholes like that from murdering people with pistols.
The Police cocked up, the official secrets act has been used to cover up the extent of their mistakes, and law abiding gun owners in their thousands had to give up, without compensation, their handguns because, unlike Thatcher, John Major and Tony Blair didn't use buybacks.
