Three coats base coat, 4 coats clear

Post by Pete » Sun Mar 25, 2018 12:33 pm

And then I installed the new fender on my little 4-cylinder daily driver. Amazing results just using rattle cans in my garage

To get spray cans to look good is a real talent.

I ordered the fender online and it was only 43 or 48 bucks with free shipping. It was pre-primed. All i did was use a grey scuffing pad, then de-wax it to clean up the dust, and shot it. I shot it before mounting it on the car because of space limitations in my garage

On my 3rd engine lol. This engine has a propensity for dropping valve seats into #4, so the first time it happened I bought a junkyard engine for $600 with a one-year warranty. Honest to God, it happened again on the last possible day before warranty expiration. I took the $600 and used it toward a total out-of-car engine rebuild for $1800. I have about 70K on the rebuild.

Gotta love no payments, low insurance and low plates

Dropped valve seats often result from the engine overheating and warping the head Mr Pete. A really good shop will re peen the seats or replace them and then grind them. A dropped seat can destroy the entire engine.

I've read article after article on the support forums and it seems this Ford engine had a propensity of dropping valve seats, and almost always #4. I saw it happen twice.

My engine head and everything else in the current engine is completely rebuilt and further valve droppage is unlikely

Congrats. I have never a can spray job that looked good. Then again, if it looked good, I wouldn't notice. I didn't realize clear coat was sold in spray cans... why can't taggers use those?
