One thing I learned about Long Island

The farther east you drive, the more polite the drivers become. Out in the Hamptons (where the rich people live), if you come to an intersection the other motorists will let you merge. Its like an unwritten rule out there.

As you drive west 85-90 miles and get close to NYC, drivers are as rude as they come and will NOT let you merge. I developed a tactic of jerking the wheel for a split second to scare the drivers in the desired lane, then merge after they hit their brakes
