Internal combustion engines have an efficiency of between 20 and 40%.
Most of the energy from petrol or diesel is wasted as heat and noise.

Synthetic and algal biofuels can be made that are chemically identical to conventional fossil fuels and therefore 100% compatible with existing engines.

That's what I advocate the production of.

And both take CO2 out of the air in order to make them, so it's a closed cycle.

I also advocate forcing rainforest countries to replant them, or face heavy sanctions.

Sounds good on paper but the "biodiesel" foisted upon commercial transportation companies is murder on vehicles. Clogged DPF's, clogged Cats, etc. Trucks stay in the shop all the freaking the time now, pushing service completion times out many weeks.

Which form of biodiesel are you talking about?
Waste chip fat from pans?
Fatberg biodiesel from sewers?
Animal fat based biodiesel?
Grease based biodiesel?

At the moment algal biofuels aren't available at the pump.
They're in research and development stage to develop the best way of growing algae for the minimum amount of water.
It's a very intensive process at the moment.
