That and the synchromesh gearbox are the two most revolutionary things developed for conventional motorcars.
Ok, automatic gearboxes are revolutionary as well, but they're not as common as cars with manual gears and a clutch.

Manuals sure are a hell of a lot less to maintain and repair. I almost bought a 5-speed Subaru a few months ago.
