And no, Putin didn't blow up his own pipe. He could have simply throttled it

"On 22 September 2022, the Russian salvage ship SS-750 and Priz-class deep-submergence rescue vehicle AS-26 were detected by the Danish patrol boat P524 Nymfen above the route of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline at the site of the sabotage."
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-65461401

Putin blew up the Nordstream pipelines last year after his customers imposed sanctions on him and pulled out of the project.

This is a photo of one of the Russian vessels which was detected by the Danes, it was operating along the route of the pipeline immediately before the bombs went off.

Not caught. Circumstantial. Speculation.

The vessel could have been maintaining, monitoring, or even protecting the pipe

Who else had the means and the motive?
The customers had already begun divesting but had not fully replaced Russia at the time.

Means: That ship and the sub it carried had the means to reach the pipeline and lay bombs and as photographed by the Danes at the time, was over the pipelines following the exact routes. No other ships with the means or motive were observed in the area.

Motive: To punish Germany and other customers for the sanctions.
Putin had already paused gas supplies several times as punishment.
Germany and other customers kept the sanctions, so he blew it up.

Because that doesn't have the intimidation and finality of a bomb. Not does it drive a wedge between NATO members and create a possibility of infighting.

Putin is a megalomaniac, a bully, a murderer and a terrorist.

Simply turning the gas off isn't enough for him.

He had to blow it up.

Sorry I just don't buy it. That theory has a "Cheney bombed WTC" flavor to it

Route of ship as observed by Danes.
Image
It was there at the time the pipeline was being prepared to blow.
It followed the route of the pipeline.
No other ships with its capabilities were observed.

Who else had motive?
Nobody.

It left Germany and other nations with severe shortages of gas for the winter of 2022.
