Anybody have experience with it?

Worth the $$$ ?

Brand suggestions?
depends on your provider and modem. If you're using comcast, pretty easy. uverse, not so much. I called tmobile to complain about serivice in the house and they sent a kickass asus at no charge.

I have a D-Link DAP-2695 And use a D-Link DAP-1520 range extender. The WAP was 300 bucks and the extender was 70. Works like a champ.

Unfortunately yes

Unless I want to spend $2000 to dig cable lines

It's bringing the value of the house down believe it or not

► Is try centrally locating it first, central to the points in the home where you use wifi.

I never had an extender. I read that they work, but at some cost to speed.
Thanks, it's my parents house, I'm not sure why they had WIFI, didn't own a computer
► Tell us how well your extender works if you get one. Or if location or a better modem/router does the job
the problem with uverse is that it's a rather sophisticated ecosystem, as opposed to comcast. with uverse you need to punch a hole through the firewall for the extender....

I just brought this one in for about $25 on Amazon. Quick setup and seems to be a good performer

Before going that route, download a wifi analyzer on your phone and check to see if moving to a different channel, or from 2.4 to 5 Mhz doesn't make a difference. If you're congested, like your neighbors have lots of stuff going on and it's still interfering after changing channels, consider running another hardline to the room. And if that doesn't work, try an extender, assuming you can get a clean enough signal from your router.

I have a large carton of old Linksys routers that I would flash with DD-WRT and turn 'em into repeaters, but I got tired of fiddling with all that crap. The upside with DD-WRT is you can boost your power

That's a great idea... sounds like a good weekend project.
