Nolax, trying this one now. Skip ahead to 0:45, that seems to be what I'm experiencing.

Done! This worked. I had to tell the terminal to ignore the file that wouldn't update, then after the rest was updated, force that file to update.
Wow... great catch. I'd have never thought to check youtube. Glad you're up and running. Let me know what you like about it...
Runs fine. Streams movies and youtube good. But not the game "supertux 3D kart racing". If it can't handle that, then the distro is probably too heavy.
I'll check it out. In the meantime, try

https://sourceforge.net/projects/torcs/

I think you'll find that one pretty light and fast.

Yeah, the tux racing is more of a test to see if the computer can handle the distro. Also, if the fan is running loud then that's a sign that the distro is too heavy.

I am trying Manjaro Gnome on the same comp. The software updater gave me these errors:

“Failed to synchronize any databases”
“error invoking external downloader”

And I fixed it with:

$ sudo pacman -Syyu

If you find any new distros, post it here.

Or any fixes to them.

Try this...

http://www.techradar.com/news/10-of-the ... ux-distros

All lightweight distros... I can run all of them from a couple of old Thinkpad T60s and a couple that I installed on a stick.

Have you played with Rasberry yet?

I've tried most of those. LUbuntu isn't that lightweight, I've found. Porteus is a great one. Ever use Crunchbang?

Haven't messed with Raspberry Pi yet, that any good?

It's a blast. And cheap. I'm building a drone using a pi motherboard. Lot's of fun...
