It's either 2011 or 2012 that was the last model where you could actually upgrade RAM and the SSD. My oldest is an early 2013... Love it. It has a great keyboard, and the newer MacOS features aren't necessarily worth the issues associated with the upgrade.

Seen that and I did an install from the web... OPTION-COMMAND-R and it went online to get the install

That machine is probably older than the techs at the store.

Took it to my Mac guy... tried everything. He even had a Mac PC he cloned my drive with and nothing... bad video
