I was looking to buy a small jewelry item for about 330 Canadian dollars but I don't want customs fees, import taxes, etc

From what I've found it looks like nothing extra is due if the item costs less than $800 usd

I used to ship small items into Canada but I'd mark them "gift" or "manufacturers sample", and customs was due

Canada is in a free trade agreement with the USA, why would there be any customs tariffs?
