Poor old J.E.B . I do love it when the PC SJWs try to erase history.
There's a difference between honoring a man and acknowledging history.
The man was a hero to the people of Richmond for over a hundred years . Things changed recently.
Some of them anyway. There's no telling how many or for how long now others have wanted to not honor him.
Many of those probably didn’t know who he was. Clearly he was a hero to white people in the south for a very long time. When I was a child, even in the north , there wasn’t the disrespect for Confederate hero’s that there is now.
Enough of them knew who he was to get the name changed.
Yes now. There has been a demographic shift, and with the internet information is more readily available. People are far more easily riled up now.

May have been for a while now. We don't actually know when then tipping point occurred.

True . I would say most people wouldn’t care about a statue until an issue was made of it .

I think most people would remain silent until others began speaking out. Some people lack courage without numbers.

I'm betting the majority were clueless regarding his history.

Renaming a school isn't erasing history.
Sure.
Oh I want history remembered. I want the world to remember the asshole traitors who tried to destroy America to perpetuate slavery.

We sure as hell don't need to honor them with statues in the park or naming schools after them.

Each state and local government should make those decisions.

They usually are . That’s why they build such statues though when this one was built i am pretty sure it was to remind people that ole J.E.B. was a hero to the south.

By Madison Park, CNN

(CNN)A Richmond, Virginia, elementary school will switch its name from that of a Confederate general to that of the nation's first black President.

On Monday, the Richmond school board voted to rename J.E.B. Stuart Elementary as Barack Obama Elementary School, reported CNN affiliate WTVR.
Members of the school's community submitted ideas for a new name and students at the Richmond school, which is 95% African-American according to WTVR, voted among seven choices. The top three finalists were: Barack Obama, Northside and Wishtree, the station reported.

------

Good move.
The first 1/2 black (or very close to it) POTUS to be scientifically accurate. He may actually be less black than he is white given the historic propensity of crackers to muddy up the gene pool of the noble black man.

In looking at the growing number of "academic institutions" named after Obama it seems odd that neither Hawaii nor Illinois has one of them in their state while states such as Georgia and Mississippi do.
