The people of Nashville, Tennessee were rocked over the weekend by a bizarre and violent crime that occurred at one of the nation’s most popular restaurant chains.

The incident occurred at a Waffle House in the bustling southern city during the dead of night. The scene was truly a bizarre one.

The suspect first fired from the parking lot, shooting two men and shattering the glass window at the front of the restaurant before going inside and continuing to pelt the restaurant with bullets, according to police.

At least four people were killed and four others wounded Sunday when the gunman opened fire until a patron wrestled the gun away, according to Metro Nashville Police.

Police spokesman Don Aaron said the patron rushed the suspected shooter, disarmed him and threw the assault rifle over the restaurant’s counter.

The suspect fled on foot, nude, after shedding his coat, Aaron said.

Suspect Travis Reinking had been on the run for several hours, enduring a massive manhunt for much of Monday morning and afternoon before thankfully being apprehended.

The suspect in a shooting at a Tennessee Waffle House that left four people dead is now in custody, according to the Metro Nashville Police Department.

“Murder suspect Travis Reinking is in custody. Arrested moments ago,” Metro Nashville Police Department tweeted Monday afternoon, ending a daylong manhunt. Police said Monday they apprehended Reinking “in a wooded area near Old Hickory Blvd & Hobson Pk.”

Reinking would undoubtedly have caused even more carnage if it weren’t for Waffle House customer James Shaw Jr.

Shaw reportedly stopped the rampage mid-shooting. He was in the Waffle House and managed to wrestle an AR-15 away from the gunman.

“His gun either got jammed or he was trying to reload, I’m not exactly sure,” Shaw said. “But I saw my opportunity, my window, so I took it and I ran through the door as fast as I can and just kind of jammed him up with the gun pointed down.”

Of course, as has been the case with multiple mass shooters in recent history, the FBI was already aware of Reinking before the shooting.

The man suspected of killing four people at a Waffle House in Nashville on Sunday was previously arrested by the US Secret Service for trespassing and being in a restricted area near the White House, authorities said. The AR-15 he used in the shooting is believed to be the same one his father returned to him after the FBI seized his weapons.

In July 2017, Travis Reinking told a uniform Secret Service officer that he must get into the White House to speak with the President, according to an arrest report. Reinking told the officer that he had to speak with the President and that he was a “sovereign citizen” who had a right to inspect the grounds.

After the officer told Reinking to move twice, the report states that Reinking took his tie off, balled it into his fist, began approaching the officer and walked past the security barriers.

Reinking was later interviewed by the FBI due to the incident.
