Following President Donald Trump’s address to the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday, the first of his presidency, many are crediting Trump with giving the speech of a lifetime.
In his speech, Trump criticized the North Korean and Iranian regimes, and also referred to his “America First” policy, arguing it could serve as a tool to strengthen nations across the world.
“As president of the United States, I will always put America first. Just like you, as the leaders of your countries, will always and should always put your countries first.,” Trump said.
John Bolton, an ambassador to the U.N. ambassador under former President George W. Bush, said the speech was “the best of the Trump presidency.”
Bolton also gave Trump high remarks for his comments on North Korea and the ongoing threat posed by its leader, Kim Jong Un.
“The United States has great strength and patience, but if it is forced to defend itself or its allies, we will have no choice but to totally destroy North Korea,” Trump said. “Rocket man is on a suicide mission for himself and for his regime.”
According to conservative radio show host Mark Levin, “President Trump’s UN speech was outstanding.”
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also praised the speech.
“PM Netanyahu on @POTUS Trump’s speech at #UNGA: In over 30 years in my experience w/ the UN I never heard a bolder or more courageous speech,” read a tweet from Netanyahu’s official Twitter account.
Nigel Farage, a right-wing member of the British parliament who was one of the loudest voices pushing for the U.K. to leave the European Union predicted that “Trump’s UK approval ratings will go up significantly after this UN speech.”
“This was the president of the United States acting like the president of the United States and not someone who is coming in to beg forgiveness for who we are,” said former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee.
Even 2012 Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney, who has been critical of Trump in the past, had nothing but good things to say.
“President Trump gave a strong and needed challenge to UN members to live up to its charter and to confront global challenges,” Romney tweeted.
Romney was referencing a portion of Trump’s speech calling on members of the U.N. to contribute more to the efforts of promoting peace and quelling evil regimes across the world.
“That’s what the United Nations is all about. That’s what the United Nations is for,” Trump said. “Let’s see how they do. It is time for North Korea to realize that the denuclearization is its only acceptable future.”
“Trump calls out the UN for having notorious human rights abusers sitting on the UN Human Rights Council,” said conservative commentator Katie Pavlich.
“Trump calls out radical Islamic terrorism by name in his UN speech,” wrote Daily Caller associate editor Peter J. Hasson.
“Masterful speech by @POTUS Trump at UN. Proud of American values. No apologies. No retreat. God Bless America!” said Rep. Peter King, R-N.Y.
According to former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich, “Pres Trump in UN speech put intellectual clarity on his principle that the American President should represent America not global system.”
“Every American should read Pres Trump’s UN speech,” Gingrich added.
“You’ve gotta love Trump’s no-nonsense speech to the UN today. I don’t recall ever hearing a US President speak so clearly,” talk-show host Bill Mitchell said.
Meanwhile, conservative political operative Jack Posobiec referenced all that has happened in the past 24 hours, particularly a report from CNN Monday indicating it is possible Trump was correct when he previously claimed that the Obama administration had wiretapped Trump Tower.
CNN reported that federal authorities “wiretapped former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort under secret orders before and after the election.”
“While Manafort has a residence in Trump Tower, it’s unclear whether FBI surveillance of him took place there,” according to CNN.
Trump accused the Obama administration in March of tapping Trump Tower before the 2016 election.
Posobiec also said Trump’s U.N. speech was “grand slam.”
