Bay Area church pastor charged with child sexual abuse

Saturday, December 2, 2023

RICHMOND, Calif. (KGO) -- The pastor of an East Bay church for Immigrants from Central America has been arrested, charged with several counts of kidnapping and "aggravated sexual assault of a child under the age of 14". His alleged victim? A member of his congregation.

The I-Team's Dan Noyes began looking into this after hearing from one very concerned family. We first asked the police about the allegations last week - they said the investigation was on-going and on Friday, they made an arrest.

Just a few months ago, this church -- Iglesia Pentecostes Movimiento de Gloria in Richmond -- attracted 150 people or more for services.

Then, allegations of sexual abuse started surfacing against the pastor, 53-year-old Victor Manuel Hernandez, and now the church is lucky to draw a dozen people on a Sunday.

A former youth pastor from Fountain was sentenced to 14 days in jail and five years of probation on Tuesday for being convicted of sending sexually explicit images to a minor associated with the church.

Jeffery Williams, 39, was arrested by Fountain police in 2022 over allegations that Williams sent sexually explicit pictures to a minor. Williams was a youth pastor with the Salvation Army's former location at 901 N. Santa Fe Ave. in Fountain from 2013-2017, police told The Gazette in previous reporting.

Williams was convicted of two sexual exploitation against a child charges — one a class-3 felony and the other a class-6 felony — at trial in 2023, according to court records. At Williams' sentencing hearing Tuesday the prosecution elaborated on the actions that led to his conviction.
