Legal immigrants always have a pathway to citizenship. Illegals, never.

The GOP passed the 14th Amendment to stop Democrats from denying freed slaves citizenship.

Yes we WERE a melting pot, but lately it has become politically expedient to change America into a Smelting Pot, balkanizing us into our various and multiple different groups for maximum grievance and special groups needing government protection and loyalty payments.
We have an estimated 11 million illegal immigrants in this country, the vast majority are law-abiding, hard-working, contributors to this country. We need a cogent immigration policy that enables a path to citizenship for them.

What's the difference between a melting pot and a smelting pot?

The last election rejected 'balkanization'.
Oh, shut your goddam mouth. Breaking the law is breaking the law. they're clogging up our schools and hospitals, getting freebies when they're not even citizens, and look at all the crime, drug trafficking, and human trafficking.
The criminal element is a very small percentage of the illegal immigrant community. Or maybe you think we should continue to deport nurses and business owners who contribute to our society because they are illegal.
They're all criminals, they're all breaking the law dumbass!

► In some perfect world they may be illegal, but in fact they often are not and their employers could either care less or prefer them.

Meat packing, for example, is a sanctuary industry in this country

So are agriculture and construction

Garments on both coasts have always relied on illegals for core labor, and everyone knows it. Occasionally garment manufacturers will call in a raid on their own factory to cancel a payday.

I do not nor have I ever disputed that some employers and farms benefit from illegal immigrant labor, and this is a widespread issue. This is why I have argued for an 18 month reset window. Serve notice to employers, illegal immigrants and lawmakers alike that order will be restored. To the illegals, let them understand that all access to government services and education will be cut off. Serve notice to employers that criminal charges and fines are coming. And let lawmakers know that they need to sort out and balance our country’s labor needs and security requirements. How hard would that be?

► Agriculture used to bring in temporary contract labor called braceros, but they stopped doing that 60 years ago. They'd bus them into the country and bus them out.

I guess it's cheaper to have them show up at your door.

Anyway farmers do the hiring though sub-contractors

Sub-contractors are how you plead ignorance.

► You can't. Or at least it's never been done. There's too much money in it

Trump singled out one meat packing plant and I don't know if he did anything.

In fact at the height of the pandemic he was ordering them all to work

Trump singled out one meat packing plant and I don't know if he did anything. There are hundreds of them all over the country anyway

In fact at the height of the pandemic he was ordering them all to work

ICE was actually invited out of Nebraska for doing its job
